RACHEL MCADAMS

Close-up of Rachel McAdams at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: I've been critical of Rachel's hair lately, but she pulled it together for Oscars night, when it counted! She touched up her roots, which gives the sleek updo more polish. I like the blondification a lot with the green dress and matchy liner. Soft pink lipstick and a warm blush complete the look. Lash game also improving! What I'd change: Nothing, but I do prefer Rachel as a light brunette, and not so streaky.
Rachel is wearing: Contour in Bronzing // Eyeshadow in Griffith Green //Lipstick in Conte
MARGOT ROBBIE
Margot Robbie at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Margot Robbie at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Margot is my favourite so far! She went for the simplest hair and makeup to counter the glitziness of the plunging gold dress. The air-dried hair texture (even though I'm sure it wasn't, in fact, air-dried) with fresh perfected skin is just right. I love the darker brows that don't look obviously filled in, and natural lashes—no harsh liner or shadow. Her lips have sharper edges but the hue is still soft. What I'd change: Nothing. Love beauty minimalism!
Margot is wearing: Primer // Foundation // Lipstick in Sensual
KATE WINSLET
Kate Winslet at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Kate Winslet at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Kate looks a little more relaxed than we often see her on the red carpet—her hair and makeup aren't quite so "done." I like the fresher skin texture and light touch on the eyes. What I'd change: I'm iffy on the lashes, but mostly I think it's high time for new hair. I'm over this brassy blonde with dark roots and the boring mid-length waves—how about a slightly darker hue and a fresh chop of a few inches? It would be SO much more current and youthful. This is getting borderline dated.
Kate is wearing: Primer // Foundation in No. 4 and No. 5 // Blush in Shimmer Rose Cashmere // Eyeshadow in Nude and Joie // Eyeliner in Noir// Eyeliner in Pluie // False lashes // Mascara in Noir Mirifique // Lip balm// Lipstick in Beige Mirage
REESE WITHERSPOON
Reese Witherspoon at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Reese Witherspoon at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Reese's general adorableness shines through here. I like her eyes the best; the gold shadow isn't too yellow, and illuminates the area (along with fluffy lashes, no dark liner). I think simple hair is always a good idea to counter a dramatic strapless dress. What I'd change: The blush! Or is that contour? Whatever the intent, it's way too dark and actually clownish. It fights with the lip colour, big time.
Reese is wearing: Foundation // Blush in Chestnut (as contour) // Blush in Happy // Blush in Flair // Eyeliner in Violet Damask // Eyeshadow in Laguna// Eyeshadow in Peach // Lipstick in Red Juniper // Lipstick in Poppy
OLIVIA WILDE
Olivia Wilde at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Olivia Wilde at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: I'm impressed with Olivia's skin coverage—she has zero discolourations or redness, yet it doesn't look like she's wearing heavy makeup. I'm also in a no-blush phase right now, so I like the lighter hand on the cheeks. What I'd change: I'm not feeling this braided updo, false lashes and blah monochromatic palette AT ALL. (Also, what's up with the heavy choker and skating costume insert at the front of her dress??) In my opinion, Olivia is at her best in creative eye makeup and with her hair down. This is disappointing.
Olivia is wearing: Foundation // Concealer // Highlighter in Peach Glow //Blush in Classy Coral // Eyeshadow in Decadent // Eyeshadow in Burnished Bling // Eyeliner in Black // Brow pencil in Light Brown // Mascara in Blackest Black // Lip liner in Natural // Lipstick in Champagne On Ice
SAOIRSE RONAN
Saoirse Ronan at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Saoirse Ronan at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Don't mind me, just freaking out over Saoirse's eyeshadow (!!!). The silvery grey sparkly smudginess is giving me life! I like that the rest of the makeup is super-natural and muted, not even any shine on the lips. Makes sense with such a showstopper dress. What I'd change: The spray tan job is a little too warm/dark—I think you have to be so careful with fair colouring. Saorise has such ashy brows and roots that bronzing can really start to look "off." I'm also not sure those earrings go with the eyeshadow or the dress, but that's neither here nor there.
Saoirse is wearing: Illuminator // Blush in Fandango // Eyeshadow in Mysterio // Eyeshadow in Tissé Smoky // Eyeliner in Feuilles // Mascara in Noir // Lipstick in Adrienne
ISLA FISHER
Isla Fisher at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Isla Fisher at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: We haven't seen Isla in ages, and this is a triumphant return! First of all, the feminine neckline and light colour of her dress really flatter her. Wearing her red hair in a voluminous ponytail is way less stuffy than the usual red carpet updos or side-swept waves. She kept the makeup simple, basically just red lipstick! What I'd change: Seriously nothing. This is another favourite for me.
Isla is wearing: Contour and highlighter // Eyeshadow in Eternal Gold //Eyeliner in Smoky Black // Blush in Floral Pink // Lip liner // Lipstick in Royale
CATE BLANCHETT
Cate Blanchett at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Cate Blanchett at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: I don't think I've ever noticed what a great smile Cate has! Not only does she have pretty teeth, but it's so genuine, not posed. That SK-II regimen must still be working wonders, because her skin is insane. I love the sheer touch on the lips—
sans lip liner—with a wash of pale purple eyeshadow on the lids. The new blonde bob is equal parts classy and casual. What I'd change: Nothing.
Cate is wearing: Blush in 506 // Eyeshadow in 08 Flannel // Eyeshadow in 10 Senso (as liner) // Lipstick in Beige 103
SOFIA VERGARA
Sofia Vergara at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Sofia Vergara at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Gosh, this is a tough one... I suppose the lipstick isn't bad. I like that Sofia went with a glossier texture this time; it's not so heavy. Also, we never see her with her hair back, so that's something. What I'd change: I'm bothered most by these weird curving lash strips, which don't even come close to approximating normal human eyelashes. The entire makeup comes across very heavy, given we have falsies, eyeliner, bold lipstick and full brows. (Even just gelling up the eyebrows would help matters.) The little bouffant at the crown of her pony isn't my favourite. Finally, her cheeks look blurred and I can't figure out why?!?
KERRY WASHINGTON
Kerry Washington at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Kerry Washington at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Oh wow, Kerry's Cleopatra-esque eyeliner is so good! It definitely brings the cool factor to this red carpet. Her pale, subtly shiny lips are exactly the right choice with the eyes. What I'd change: I wish she'd left it at that. The lashes are way too cray (why, Kerrrrry???). I also think her brows needed more attention to detail. Last of all, I wonder if this is the right hairstyle. She already has an oblong face shape, so the height at the top accentuates that.
Kerry is wearing: Foundation in Cocoa // Blush in Raisin Glow // Brow wax // Eyeliner in Noir // Eyeliner in Cosmic Black // Mascara in Carbon Black // Lip crayon in Almond Nude
JENNIFER GARNER
Jennifer Garner at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Jennifer Garner at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: On past red carpets, I've sometimes felt like Jennifer's hair, makeup and dress were wearing her and not vice-versa. Fortunately, that's not happening here. The simple updo and fresh, soft makeup are very well-suited to her girl next door aura. I especially like the peachy lip colour. What I'd change: The overlining is too much and unnecessary when she has full lips already.
Jennifer is wearing: Eyeliner in Cosmic Black (upper lash lines) //Eyeliner in Brushed Pewter (lower lash lines) // Eyeshadow in Soft Taupe //Blush in Rosy // Lip crayon in Classic Nude
NAOMI WATTS
Naomi Watts at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Naomi Watts at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Naomi is really,
really good at pulling off modern Hollywood glamour. Case in point: her full strong brows, rich raspberry lipstick and waved blonde lob. So striking, but never overdone. I admire her brows a lot; a lot of women her age can't grow them this thick! What I'd change: The lipstick texture needs help.
DAISY RIDLEY
Daisy Ridley at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Daisy Ridley at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: This is my kind of beauty look right here. Daisy looks so fresh, young and chic in a strawberry lipstick (notice the soft edges) and silver shadow all the way up to her brows and under her eyes. Love, love, love! Her lashes are natural, but her brows got darkened to frame her face—albeit with no harsh angles. Pulling her hair back and up makes it feel super-clean. What I'd change: Not a thing. Another fave of the night!
Daisy is wearing: Lip liner in Scarlet // Lipstick in Histoire
LADY GAGA
Lady Gaga at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Lady Gaga at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: The edges aren't the best, but I'm very into this metallic copper eyeshadow paired with soft lipstick in a similar tone. Gaga's skin also looks really good, and I guess this Marilyn Monroe-style 'do is appropriate. What I'd change: Usually, she has a better false lash game than this. It also might be time to step away from the brow bleach.
Lady Gaga is wearing: Eyeshadow in Topaz // Eyeshadow in Mango, Toffee and Burgundy // Eyeshadow in Pearl and Silver // Eyeshadow in Dream // Eyeliner in Smoked Topaz // Mascara in Deep Black
OLIVIA MUNN
Olivia Munn at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Olivia Munn at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: You don't often see an orange dress and matching lipstick on the red carpet, but I love both on Olivia. The lip has a hint of red in it, which makes it easier to wear than a straight yellow base. I also like the knotted low bun, and how she kept her eyes neutral. What I'd change: Why contour with blush? I don't get it. I don't want to see the blush all the way down there (nor do we need that much of it).
Olivia is wearing: Lipstick in Excentrique // Lipstick in Pimpante
CHARLIZE THERON
Charlize Theron at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Charlize Theron at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: I'm actually paying more attention to the dress (which is amaze) than the beauty part—but Charlize did a good job with that, too. What draws me to this look is that it's SO glamorous, yet it also plays to her athleticism and doesn't try to be too girly. I really like the absence of colour on her face, particularly the tone-on-tone eye makeup. What I'd change: I know Charlize has naturally thin brows, so I think they should be softer, not so dark.
Charlize is wearing: Eyeshadow in 796 Cuir Cannage // Eyeshadow in 573 Mineral (out in April)
JULIANNE MOORE
Julianne Moore at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Julianne Moore at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Julianne never gets it wrong, does she? I appreciate that we're seeing her real skin—not covered up with gobs of makeup—and loose, shiny, healthy hair. Less is more on her, so a little dab of blush, soft pink lips and sparkly shadow are all she needs. What I'd change: Nothing.
Julianne is wearing: Blush in Pink Lift // Lipstick in Jennifer's Nude
CHRISSY TEIGEN
Chrissy Teigen at the 2016 Oscars.
Close-up of Chrissy Teigen at the 2016 Oscars.
What I love: Honestly, I'm stuck here. I suppose Chrissy's gold glitter eyeshadow and lipstick tone could be okay if there wasn't so much product on her face. What I'd change: I think we can partially attribute this situation to really bad lighting. The first things that got my attention were the powdery, mask-like foundation and the scary overlined lips. Also, everyone is talking about her intricate braid, but I don't like it at all. And at least in this light, her highlights are looking
très streaky.
Chrissy is wearing: Foundation // Concealer // Powder // Contour //Blush in Tinge // Eyeshadow in Unzipped // Eyeliner in Black // Eyeliner in Bronze // Mascara in Black // Brow pencil // Lipstick in Nude and Rose Brown // Lip gloss in Socialite
